Hammonton calls itself the Blueberry Capital of the World, and the downtown district looks the part — a genuinely walkable Main Street with historic bungalows, older storefronts, and a mix of newer construction on the edges of town. That historic character is what makes Hammonton a more interesting solar conversation than, say, a generic subdivision. Some of the older homes near Bellevue Avenue and the downtown core fall inside areas where the construction office takes a closer look at aesthetics, and we design around that when it matters. Outside the historic sections, the housing stock opens up to standard single-family lots where solar is straightforward. Hammonton runs on Atlantic City Electric, which means full-retail net metering and the same SuSI registration process as the rest of Atlantic County. That means good sun exposure on most residential lots, minimal wind-uplift concern compared to coastal towns, and a tree canopy that varies sharply between the denser older neighborhoods and newer developments. Lake Hammonton homes often have clear southern exposure over the water, which is a strong advantage for solar production.
Hammonton's construction office handles solar permits in person, which adds a day or two of coordination compared to municipalities with online intake. Review tends to run two to four weeks for standard projects. Homes in or adjacent to the historic district near downtown may see additional aesthetic review, which we address up front by favoring low-profile all-black modules on street-visible planes.
